I Hate Being in Front of the Camera Too
One of the hardest parts of being behind a camera is listening to amazing people put themselves down.
I've heard it countless times. Someone steps into a session and says, “Yeah, that's fine,” without looking me in the eye. Or “I just hate…” Or “Don't worry about it, it's a me problem.” Or “Can you just make me skinnier? Younger?”
Sometimes I have to pause, because they can't see what I see. The person in front of me always has so much to offer. Life has just worn them down. And that's my favorite part of what I do: the chance to remind them how beautiful they truly are, and to help them feel excited again.
Here's the thing: I get it. I'm so uncomfortable in front of the camera myself. I never know which way to turn or what to do with my hands, and I always feel rushed when someone else is taking my photo. I would love it if someone walked me through a session with the same care I try to give my clients.
So that's what I do. I slow down. I talk you through every pose. We laugh, we take breaks, and we go at your pace until you start to relax and look like yourself.
If you've ever said “I hate having my picture taken,” me too! It's the worst! And I promise I'll help you through it.
